Kitchen drains
Slow kitchen sink? The blockage may be close to the fixture.
Kitchen drains commonly collect grease, food residue, and other material. A drain may get slower over time before it stops completely.
- Kitchen sink drains slowly
- Kitchen sink will not drain
- Water stands in the sink
- Sink backs up when another fixture is used
Garbage disposal jams, repair and installation
A garbage disposal that jams can leave the kitchen sink draining slowly or not at all. Food buildup, material caught in the disposal, or a problem farther down the kitchen drain can all affect how the sink drains.
- Garbage disposal is jammed
- Garbage disposal will not drain
- Garbage disposal needs repair
- Garbage disposal replacement or installation
If the disposal is jammed, do not put your hand into it. If the disposal needs repair or replacement, tell us what it is doing when you call so we can determine what service is needed.
Dishwasher drain problems
A dishwasher and kitchen sink can share part of the same kitchen drainage path. A blockage can show up as water backing into the sink when the dishwasher drains, or as a dishwasher that does not drain properly.
- Dishwasher will not drain
- Water backs up into the kitchen sink
- Kitchen sink backs up when dishwasher runs
- Dishwasher drain line problem
One kitchen sink or several drains?
If only the kitchen sink is affected while the bathroom and other drains work normally, the restriction may be close to the kitchen fixture or its branch drain. If several fixtures back up together, the problem may be farther down a shared drain or main line.
Do not pour grease down the sink. Let it cool and put it in the trash instead. When a kitchen drain is already backing up, avoid adding more water until the restriction is cleared.
